Creating a Scandinavian-inspired illustration brand designed for real homes.


The Challenge

South Skoven was created as a new illustration brand focused on producing distinctive art prints for the home. The challenge was to develop an identity that felt calm, contemporary and Scandinavian in its aesthetic while standing apart from a crowded Etsy marketplace.

The brand needed to appeal to design-conscious customers and provide a flexible foundation for future growth beyond individual prints.



The Strategy

Research into competing illustration brands revealed a crowded market dominated by similar visual styles and generic creative branding. To differentiate South Skoven, the identity was built around a customer-first approach.

Rather than creating artwork solely for artistic expression, the brand focuses on producing prints that people genuinely want to display in their homes.

This led to the positioning statement:

Artwork designed for real homes that become conversation pieces.

The visual direction was inspired by Scandinavian design principles, Nordic landscapes, autumnal colours and a sense of calm, space and stillness.


The Solution


The identity centres around a cabin nestled within a forest, while communicating isolation, nature and quiet confidence.

Softened typography and generous spacing create a sense of openness and allow the identity to breathe, reflecting the simplicity and restraint associated with Scandinavian design.

Alongside the primary logo, a complete identity system was developed, including a secondary logo, brand mark, wordmark and badge logo. Supporting assets such as branded stamps, patterns and merchandise applications were also created to ensure flexibility across print and digital platforms.


The Outcome

The result is a distinctive and memorable visual identity that balances Scandinavian simplicity with warmth and personality.

South Skoven now has a cohesive brand system that differentiates it within the illustration market, supports future growth and provides a strong foundation for packaging, social media, website design and product development.
